Yes. The federal Belgian Tax Shelter can be layered with regional economic funds — Screen Flanders, screen.brussels, and Wallimage — to push total support beyond 50% of eligible spend. Where the same expenditure is co-financed with other State aid, the cumulative total must stay within the GBER aid ceiling.
Is the Tax Shelter a cash rebate?
No. The Belgian Tax Shelter is an investment-based incentive: Belgian-taxed investors pre-finance the production through a framework agreement and receive a corporate-tax exemption, which the producer accesses as net financing of up to roughly 42% of qualifying Belgian spend. It is not paid as a post-wrap cash rebate.
Is there a cap on the amount that can be sheltered?
Yes. The amount that can be sheltered from tax is capped per audiovisual work (on the order of €7.25 million per project under current rules). Regional fund support is separate and additional. Confirm current ceilings with FPS Finance before structuring.
Do documentaries qualify?
Yes. Documentary features and TV documentaries are eligible for the Belgian Tax Shelter, alongside fiction and animation works, provided they are certified as European audiovisual works.
